fossil fuel funding at Princeton

Fossil fuel funded research at Princeton increased by 15% in 2023. Since 2000, ExxonMobil and BP together have given over $35 million to the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment and the Climate Mitigation Initiative (CMI) at Princeton University. From 2017-2022  the University received $26.2 million in funding research from eleven oil and gas companies, with most of that coming from Exxon-Mobil and BP. Over the last 5 years, approximately 50 fossil-fuel related companies have recruited on campus.

Dissociation was announced in September, 2022. Princeton said it would no longer have a "financial reslationship" with 90 coal and tar sands companies. 80 of those were companies Princeton had never interacted with. The other 10 were:  Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk PT, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd, Exxon Mobil Corp. Guanghui Energy Co. Ltd, NRG Energy, Inc, Oxbow Carbon LLC, Suncor Energy, Inc, Syncrude Canada Ltd., Thoroughbred Resources LP and TotalEnergies SE. In a February 2024 update, the University reinstated 2 of those 10 companies, including TotalEnergies SE, responsible for the EACOP pipeline
